Lake Biwa Men and Women Long Distance Relay Festival

5 International students from the Japanese Language School and Japanese students from the ECC Kokusai College of Foreign Languages participated in the Lake Biwa Men and Women Long Distance Relay on the Sunday, 25th November, which was also the day the Osaka Marathon was held on.

Lake Biwa is famous for the autumn leaves in the beautiful park in Shiga prefecture, and an annual event is held every fall.

The participating members practised for 2 months for this relay event.

Members were divided into 2 teams, and out of the 74 teams, they finished in the 51st and 65th place.

There was a slight disappointment, but everyone was able to finish the race thanks to the practices.

Marathon is often said to be a lonely sport, however, the long-distance relay race is a team sport where the “襷” (sash) connects everyone.

It is considered that marathon is a sort of “和(Wa)” sport which describes Japanese spirts, helping each other.

Since the event will be held next year as well, for the members who participated in this round, and of course anyone who likes to run, how about starting to practice now?

Let’s hope for a nice run next year!
